Please join us for a fun wine event on our beautiful patio this Monday, August 19th.
We are very excited to welcome Tomás Hughes, winemaker from the great Argentine estate, Finca Decero. Decero is a single-vineyard property in the high-altitude Agrelo district of Mendoza, where many of Argentina’s most sought-after wines are being made. We will be featuring 4 wines from the Decero lineup and a pour of Madeira to finish it off!
The word “decero” means “from scratch.” The project began in the late 90s in a newly emerging, high-altitude district of the Mendoza region with enormous potential for quality wines. Their “Remolinos” Vineyard was named after its strangest and most special natural attribute – the remolinos, or tiny whirlwinds. These gusts of wind stir up the bare soil into dancing spiral forms which aerate the vines and keep the grapes in perfect condition during the growing season.
Son of an important agricultural engineer in Mendoza, Tomás received graduate degrees in both viticulture and winemaking. After several years at the blue chip wineries Achaval Ferrer and Clos de Chacras, Tomás joined the team at Decero in 2014, and now has 5 vintages under his belt.
“There is an inextricable link between earth and wine,” says Hughes. “Understanding the intricacies of this terroir, both below and above ground, has allowed me to nurture authentic wines that truly express this unique place.”
